Antelope Cemetery

Upper Cemetery on Antelope near Grouse

The following information was furnished to Lillian Bell from Mary Snyder, who had found it in her parents' records as it relates to the people buried at this Cemetery.

A Grandma Petzer, mother of Mrs. Lathan who lived on the Bryan Taylor ranch:

Baby Richards, no history
A Mrs Conley, first couple to homestead on Dry Fork
Ruthie Richardson, a child sister to George (Ros & Mae)
Two small children of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Merritts, who perished in a house fire
A one year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Lathms
Frank Chandler, 10 or 12 years old, no history

This cemetery was used during the late 1880's.

Lower Antelope Cemetery

The following information was furnished to the Butte County Cemetery District by Lillian Bell, who had gotten it from the Mark and Clara Cherry family who lived on the old Bill Jones ranch (now known as the Soelberg ranch).

Two Indian squaws were the first ones buried there. They had been reportedly killed by a Mr. Lee with whom they had lived.

A George Stoddard
Michels' baby boy. The parents had been on their way to Clayton with a team and wagon and had come through the Craters and down through Antelope, when the baby got sick and passed away
A Mr. Bush, who was killed by a buck sheep while staying at the Goodman's

These people were apparently buried there in the late 1880's as when the formal survey was made in 1912. The Cemetery was there as it is shown today.
